Introduction

Hi everyone my name is Ryan Kaye. I chose to go to UCF for a few different reasons when I first applied to college. The main reason why I chose to attend UCF was because it was pretty close to home but at the same time far enough in which I still feel like I am away from them in a college town. Another reason why I chose UCF was because I love Orlando. Orlando has always been one of my favorite places because of all of the fun things it has to offer. I chose the IDS major because I figured that instead of focusing on one specific area I can study three different areas. This major allows me to take many different classes and that is what I have always wanted. My short term goal is to Graduate from UCF this semester and start looking for a career job hopefully in the Hospitality or Marketing field. My long term goal is to be very successful in whatever I do and travel allot with my company. Overall I love UCF and I am glad that I chose a great school.

Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Ferreri. I'm an Aries vegetarian from Atlanta, and my absolute favorite thing to do is to travel. I just got back from a trip to Hong Kong and it was amazing!!! The reason I came to UCF is that it is the closest university to where my parents now live in Clearwater- well, except for USF, but that's a little TOO close, if you know what I mean. I chose IDS because I wanted to study Statistics, but I also wanted specific focuses, namely business. So I got my perfect mixture. As for my future career goals, I'm devoting all of my non-school time this semester towards finding job to start off with- hopefully as an assistant with economic consulting or some other form of business analysis. That’s me!

  1. Hi everyone! My name is Kelly Slaton. I am loving Interdisciplinary Studies! My two areas are Commerce and Behavior/Social Science, and my minor is in Communications. I am Junior, however, I have only been at UCF for one year. I transferred from, here it goes, FSU, Florida Christian College, and finally Valencia Community College. Having been to so many colleges, I had a number of courses to transfer in three different areas. Can you see where this is going? Yes, this led me to majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. Thankfully, I only have one year left.
Out of all the people who have asked me what I am majoring in, I have had to explain Interdisciplinary Studies to all of them. The best way I’ve found to explain it to people is by telling them I chose two majors and meshed them together, and was able to choose a minor in another area as well. That seems to work every time.
There are many advantages to majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. It allows students to study in more than one or two fields. It is helpful to those of us who have a number of interests and could not narrow it down to one before or during college. It is beneficial for any of our future employers, they will see that we have knowledge and skills in many areas. I can’t think of any disadvantages within this major. The only disadvantage, if any, would be having to explain it every time we speak to someone about our major. However, this only turns into an advantage, displaying our many areas of study.

  2. Hey everyone. My name is Chris Law and I'm an IDS major with my concentrations being Business and Anthropology. I'm minoring in Computer Science because I was formerly a computer science major. I switched over to IDS to complete my degree faster so I can move on to what I want to do which is flying. For me, a college degree is basically a check mark on an application with the major not being much of a concern. While I'm finishing my degree(hopefully Spring!) I'm also looking into joining the military, either Navy or Air Force. I'm currently just getting as much information on the military as possible, and deciding whether that is the route I want to take to pursue a career as a pilot.

  4. Hi, everyone my name is Nick Pieschel, I am currently a junior and I am an IDS major. I play on the UCF football team, so most of my time that is not devoted towards studying I spend practicing or watching film on our next weeks opponent. Other than that I love hanging out with friends and family. I am from Fort Lauderdale and I went to Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. My areas of study are communication and commerce, and my minor is coaching. When I graduate I want to become a college football coach, with the knowledge I am acquiring from my IDS major I believe I will be able to become a successful college coach. I love my major because it gives me the freedom to learn a wide variety of studies.
